A Night in the Suburbs, pt. 8 Taking a long drag of a hand-rolled cigarette, the man leaned his head back and sideways to look at a woman at an angle that could only be described as unnecessary. This was a strange pair if you have ever seen one - The man wore the vestments of a catholic priest while the women adorned monk’s robes. They leaned on the front bumper of an ancient Chevrolet lacking license plates, the hood open and steaming. They were parked on what would be called “Make Out PoinA Night in the Suburbs, pt. 8
A Night in the Suburbs, pt. 7 Lights flashed and music blasted in a wooden home. The single room was filled to the brim with many colorfully clothed people, and their chatter contended with the music for volume. Alcohol was in the hands of everyone at the party, and smiles were on everyone’s faces. A large bearded man was pushing is way though the party with little difficulty. “Excuse me, thank you, excuse me, thank you” he repeated in a thick Russian accent to each person he displaced.A Night in the Suburbs, pt. 7
Murder by NumbersI wake, confused in the darkness, my memory an empty slate. Dimly, I make out a matchbook on the nightstand beside me. Where am I, what is my name? Opening the box, I take out a match, striking it on the strip beneath an unfamiliar brand.Murder by Numbers
In the newborn sputtering light I see walls plastered with hundreds of notes, windows papered over with loose-leaf reams proclaiming "This is the day!""You know where he lives!" and countless other less than helpful clarifications.

While I pondered weak and weary over the most mundane decision in a perfectly bland room, there was no raven, only you.
But you have been something like a raven to me, a dark-feathered omen on wings of these storms. Once like a dove, you promised tranquility to me, but your paint washed off in the rains long ago.
And so it is that it's come to this, a lasting resolve or a parting kiss.
Two roads diverged in the bleakest way, and I?
| I'm a guy. I live in Texas, but I'm hoping to escape soon. I listen to, make, and think about music a lot. I read books and things. I write stories and the occasional poem. I think we should be kind to one another. I think we should let people do what makes them happy, even if their doing it doesn't make us happy. I think we could all stand to be a bit friendlier. |
